At the end of  the year of 1964 its predecessor named Drilling Division of OGDC started drilling of Jaldi-1 situated at Chittagonj district with USSR drilling rig. Depth of the well was 2300m. The well found dry. OGDC Drilling Division discovered first gas well at Semutang #1 in the year 1969 with a gas reserve of 150 Billion CFT at Chittagonj district. It was the 3^rd exploration well drilled by Drilling Division. Drilling Division continued its activities under and OGDC, PETROANGLA, BAPEX from 1964 to till 2004. Drilling operation division under OGDC, PETROANGLA & BAPEX drilled total 16 wells of different depths. 8 Gas field has been discovered out of the total 16 exploratory well drilled. The deepest well drilled by this division in the year 1988 was Fenchugonj # 2 with a gas discovery of 283 BCF. It was the deepest well of the then South East Asia Region.
